Dubbo Project (DP)

The Dubbo Project (DP) (previously known as the Dubbo Zirconia Project) is a $1B project and Australia's most valuable rare metal/rare earth project.  With an estimated mine life of 70+ years, it is the next project of its type in the world expected to begin operation.  The DP will be located 25km south of Dubbo and produce, zirconium, hafnium, niobium, and light and heavy rare earth products.

Planning Assessment Commission (PAC) - Submissions to PAC

•  Department of Planning and Environment recommends approval of project and DP proceeds to Planning Assessment Commission for review

•  Responses to submissions made by the community, public interest groups and government agency submissions to the EIS

•  Community, public interest groups and government agency submissions to the EIS

•  Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) submitted to DP&I

Benefits to local community

•    Construction work force ~300 - 400 (over 18-24 months)
•    Will create up to 250 permanent  jobs, most (~85%) sourced local to the region
•    Approximately $50M pa in salaries/wages, utilities, plus other suppliers into local economy
•    Flow on effect to other ancillary industries
•    Future access to substantial power supply and to gas pipeline

Rare Earths and Rare Metals

Have been identified as globally strategic important metals;
•    Japan, China, Korea, USA and Europe have strategic policies in place to secure sources
•    Green technologies (including auto catalytic converters, wind turbines, compact fluorescent lighting, fuel cells) and Smart Devices and new technology (smartphones, tablets, LCD screens, MRI, superconducting magnets) rely on them.
•    China produces 90% of world downstream zirconium chemicals
•    China currently produces 90% of world Rare Earth Elements (REE) output
•    China is limiting the export of raw rare earths materials
•    Brazil produces 85% of the world’s niobium

Alkane Resources Record

•    Alkane have a 20 year history of exploring, operations and rehabilitation in the Central West of NSW.
•    Developed Peak Hill Gold Mine in 1996, operated to 2005.  Site largely rehabilitated
•    Mining operations have commenced at Tomingley in January 2014.
