Alkane in the community

Alkane is an active and engaged member of the communities in which we operate.  Our employees live locally and participate in local community activities.  As a company, our goal is to support the development of more resilient regional communities through the establishment of permanent infrastructure, the provision of training and career opportunities to local residents, and the creation of local economic opportunities (for service providers). We aim to leave a positive legacy that will long outlive the life of mining operations.

Our communities

Alkane supports communities in the central west region of New South Wales with involvement and sponsorship of a range of initiatives and events – from local fundraisers to student career days and agricultural shows.  We are most active in:

  • Dubbo local area – Home of our developing Dubbo Project (DP)
  • Narromine Shire – Home of Tomingley Gold Operations (TGO)
  • Parkes Shire – Home of our rehabilitated Peak Hill Gold Mine

Since 2014 Alkane has sponsored the Tomingley Gold Project Community Fund, which aims to foster close relations between the TGO team and the local Narromine Shire community by providing support for local infrastructure and events. Funding is awarded twice a year on a proposals basis. To find out more about how to apply for the Tomingley Gold Project Community Fund click here.

Listening and sharing - Alkane values strong and positive relationships with local communities.  We are committed to clear and regular communications about our operations and development activities, and welcome community members to engage with us directly about any of our projects.

Community newsletters - We publish two quarterly newsletters created especially for the communities interested in the Dubbo Project and Tomingley Gold Operations.  They focus on development and operations updates, news of interest to residents and other community-relevant announcements.

Community Consultative Committees – Alkane participates in two community consultative committees (one each for TGO and DP), which facilitate communication about mine operations and environmental performance, and provide a forum for open discussion between mining companies and the community.  They each comprise an independent chairperson, along with representatives of the local community, local council and Alkane.

Participation in local events – Alkane personnel regularly participate at a range of different regional events to discuss our projects. We also hold periodic information sessions to update community members of significant milestones for our projects.

Information downloads – We maintain a library of community-relevant project information on our website.  These include a range of project updates, FAQs, infographics, fact sheets, videos and more.
